We believe you are quite right search engines were built enhance and solve someone’s problem. In our wiew search and pull marketing are the future. People do want to find out solutions themselves.

Push marketing using mailings is not a sustainable model in the long run.

Hi Mike,

Online shoppers tend to shop mostly in their own country mostly cause of quicker and more cheap deliveries, however there are interresting exceptions and these are mostly related to the fact that you cant find some products or services in some countries.
These examples can be involve certain books not available in the nordics book stores and then maybe amazon.co.uk or .com will receive thoose orders.

I am myself a fond of Starbucks and to my disappointment they dont exist in Sweden (!) hence if I need Starbucks cups I have to eaither buy them on any of my many trips or go online.

If you can specify more of products or sector you are wondering about i can try to give you better examples.

Best

Interesting comment about “Jante Law”, I find this quote from Wikipedia of special interest:
Don't you think we know something about you?

Have you heard the Spanish expression”hacer el sueco” (do a Swedish)? It’s an expression when one pretend not to understand or ignore someone. Then you act, according to the Spanish expression, in a Swedish way.

Hi Sara,

great web site, very helpful info.

i am launching a search campaign for a client in europe and an interesting question was asked to me: do online shoppers in northern europe shop online in the UK since of its proximity? Is there any data available for this?
thanks for your help!

Sara, it was indeed a great audience at yesterday's seminar.

I really think that your message that a longterm and viable strategy for search has to be integrated in the overall marketing strategy was well received.

I can also inform you that our case was somewhat succesful - our press release and blog posts were monitored by journalists and today the Swedish executive magazine "Chef" (Swedish for "Boss" and nothing else...) published an interview with me about reputation management on the web.
